North Abington Residence, Clarks Summit, PA

Tucked into the fielded landscape of Pennsylvania, a once rural farmhouse has taken on a new life. The Scranton Residence is designed to usher the beauty of the outside, in, whilst brining the home into the modern, technological era. Large, operable windows allow the occupant to blur the line from the interior to the exterior, creating a cohesive environment that is one with nature. In the interior, special attention was paid to the existing materials of the home, allowing us to select new materials that complemented and honored the time-worn surfaces.

Historically, the house’s exterior was composed of cedar shake siding and stacked field stone. We complemented these materials with the addition of Corten Steel accents, minimal glass railings and a standing seam metal roof. The original shake was painted a cool grey in an effort to retain its inherent modesty and to blend it within the surrounding environment.
